Welcome to the Bartlett Lab in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience at Rutgers,

New Jersey Medical School.

The goal of my laboratory is to understand how dysregulation of hepatic calcium signaling contributes to disease states such as fatty liver disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The liver maintains energy homeostasis and euglycemia by responding to circulating endocrine hormones, catecholamines and the central nervous system. Obesity and diabetes disturb these pathways leading to steatosis and fatty liver disease. We use digital imaging techniques, transcriptomics and biochemical techniques to determine how obesity affects zonal calcium regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in the liver.
